Early mobile phones were around when I was younger but most people didn't get them till secondary school so I used to have to do this if I wanted to meet a friend at the park or whatever. I actually still remember the landline number of my best friend even though I haven't phoned it for like 18 years lol

Most parents would just shout for the friend and leave the phone down after saying how are you or whatever

I remember 2 of my best friends landlines and it was probably longer than 18 years last time I rang them

Back in the sixties we used to arrange to play footie with our mates for the following week .. so when we were just leaving the pitch . Nobody had anyone else’s landline number

Oh at the age of 9 or 10 we’d all walk about 4 miles into the countryside to spend the whole day fishing .. we’d take a few butties and a flask of coffee
