Default Valentines Day for kids?

So I never actually knew parents bought their kids valentines gifts, I'm not talking just a card etc I'm talking full on Xmas style gifts like toys, bikes etc...anyway like I said I had no idea until I seen it all over my social media feeds this morning.

We don't celebrate it as its also my mums anniversary but now im sitting here thinking am I **** mum being selfish not celebrating it for my little boy

Answers on a postcard or just post below due to cost of living and the price of stamps etc etc

Some parents need their head checked, in my opinion.

All the maddest ideas come from social media these days.

I guess it's another way they want to involve their kids , but no I don't think there's anything wrong with not doing this . There's alot of commercialised ideas out there aswell....but I guess that could be said for every celebration holiday out there .

Resist it Josy, it was never for kids, it started with a card , now its flowers, chocolates, fizzy pink wine, teddies, underwear, expensive dinners for adults/teens, now they are coming for the kids, it must be a new thing because I have literally never heard of this, the closest we came was kids would make a card for their parents in primary school......

Did you know.... The native American, Squanto, who greeted the Pilgrims, greeted them in English? He had been stolen into slavery by the Spanish, either escaped or was freed, travelled to London where he learned English and worked as a shipbuilder. Today's fun fact...

I always find it very odd to see Valentine's cards aimed at sons or for Mums, wonder what Freud would think about it

I buy my little girl a rose each year just because she is so special and pretty and needs to know her worth and how she will be treated future.
Nothing extravagant just a simple gift.

I thought it was dying out, seems not. I have seen some shops have a few things in, but i feel (excluding tik tock/social media insanity) it's nowhere near as popular as it used to be.

I did see one ad board at the train station which stood out, it was something like "milk tray, when you both agree on no fuss". I think that's fair, a few quid on some chocolates, that'll actually be eaten anyway.

I always sent my kids a valentines card each, once they were old enough to read.
No gifts though.

Actually, yes. And they make up a wildly disproportionate number of people currently in prison. Happy Valentines!

I wished my son a Happy Valentines this morning - he looked at me, said "ewww" shook his head and disappeared into his room

So nah, he's not getting a present

Halloween and Black Friday are good imo, you can get deals off the PlayStation Store during those days.

But seriously we as a society already pay heavily financially during Birthdays and Christmas, I personally wouldn't spend too heavily on any other celebratory day.
