Default Music or Lyrics?

Obviously both are very important to a song, but which means more to you, music you can rock your head to and a beat to tap along with or meaningful lyrics you can relate to?

I think it very much depends on the artist, and in some cases I will adore the lyrics to a song whereas in another the music, but on a whole I think I prefer a track which has a great beat and hence feel to it. Probably due partly to me being absolutely useless at picking up lyrics lol.

Good question! I'm not actually sure which I prefer; I suppose my favourite songs are songs that have lyrics I enjoy; but both are important to me, lyrics slightly more so.

Music.

I would go out of my way and search everything on Youtube to find awesome instrumentals of good songs.

Some great instrumentals to great songs are:

When Love Takes Over by David Guetta, like I ******ing love this. Summer '09!

Meccano by The Red Light Company, Heard this on Stuart's best bits in BB9 and it's my favourite song now and has been for 2 years, Unfortunately I can't find a clear instrumental like they had in BB9 but still the backing tune is epic.

And Bad Romance by Lady Gaga, seriously if you haven't heard this instrumental.. GO HEAR IT LISTEN TO IT. It's brilliant, The main part is great.

So yeah the music FTW, Most songs are better without words.

Sound of a song is superior to the meaning of a song

Music, don't give a crap about lyrics.
I hardly ever connect with the meaning of the song, I just listen to it if it sounds good.

Most song lyrics are very cliched and basic. Just the same old lines really. Thats why Im never really impressed when the likes of Kylie claim to have written their songs. If you look at the actual words they are very simple really.

Its putting the words into a structure, creating a tune and the general production that really makes most music great. Lets be honest, most people tend to mishear the words anyway and often get them wrong when trying to sing along.

Then again, there are specific songs that have very clever or poignant lyrics that people connect with. But a great tune with bad lyrics is better than a crap tune with great lyrics IMO. You may as well just read a book if words are all you want.

I guess it'd be the music, I sometimes listen to songs in languages I don't understand and I love them as mush as a song in english.

Lyrics. That's like the meaning of a song and what it's all about.

I hate those "songs" so much where there's no lyrics and just music. It's too boring.

Music for sure, there are some songs with absolutely horrendous lyrics with tons of sexual innuendos but I still love them.

95% of the time music, even though there are some songs where the lyrics stand out to me over the music. like here;

Both, but good lyrics can get lost bigtime if the melody is very boring, the arrangement of songs is what is important.
A good melody, with good lyrics, arranged either with group backing or orchestra that is as carefully planned as the writing of the song is what makes the track.
Oasis had the art of combining the 3 elements, good lyrics, strong melody, whether it was a rock or ballad song, but the arrangements were really astounding work.
I forget the song but one that Liam did,was so simple but also classy thanks to the arrangement. 'Champagne Supernova' also is one of the finest examples of great lyrics, melody and first class arrangement.

Good example to throw in here is this song. Its really catchy, most people like it but it means absolutely nothing
