What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?

My nose was getting longer when i told a lie probably the most common one

I believed that if I made a train and closed my eyes and sang the care Bear countdown when i opened them that I'd end up in Care Bear world. I was devastated when it didn't work

I also believed my uncle (who at the time was a missionary priest in Kenya) when he told me that I could go to Africa with him after I had an argument with my mom, I packed my suitcase and all but he never took me

Not so much a strange belief but I bought into the lie that Crack Cocaine is in some way a hard drug but powder cocaine is glamorous. As this article and countless others prove that is bullsh*t. They are essentially the same thing the only difference is the removal of hydrochloride in crack cocaine so it can be smoked, everything else is the same. Yet the sentencing for crack is so much harsher than powder. It is IMO one of the biggest lies ever sold to us.

There was a pattern on my curtains in my bedroom that I believed looked vaguely like witches if they were viewed at a certain angle, and so every night I saw it and was convinced that witches were going to fly into my room and kill me.

I was always told that if I told a lie, then a spot would appear on my tongue. I believed it right up until I was 13 too... But I found it, it was just because I was slightly allergic to tomatoes. When my mum thought I was lieing she would somehow add a tomato in my dinner. Very strange.

There was a church thing in EK when i was little (I think it was a pillar with a light in it and it had notices on) My mum told me baby jesus was in it at the bottom and she used to hold me up and I would look down inside and see him, or at least i saw a light and imagined the rest.

Two main things:

I was told that if I swallowed chewing gum it would stick to my heart and stop it and I'd die. (thank God for anatomy and phsysiology lessons)

And the other: my dad was very muscular and he used to pretend that he'd got a mouse in his closed hand, pretend to swallow it, then would make his biceps 'dance' and tell us it was the mouse. I played the same trick on my kids when they were small.
