May sound like a dumb question but does anyone here eat food that’s maybe a day or two out of date? Or do you just choose to throw it away once it’s expired?
If it’s chicken or any type of meat I’d bin it straight away but I’ve just eaten a GU lemon cheesecake that expired on the 11th and it didn’t taste unusual at all, even gave it a good sniff before I ate it just to be safe ![]() Anyone else...?

If it isn’t mouldy and doesn’t smell weird, sure, anything more than 2 days is a nono though.

I've heard cheesecakes become deadly if eaten 4 days after expiry date. Something to do with mascarpone cheese mixing with oxygen.

To be clear are you talking "best before" or "use by" ?, Best before can usually still be eaten after the date . Use by depends as it usually spoils quickly.
Some things get mouldy quick like dairy items. Last edited by GoldHeart; 15-03-2020 at 03:26 PM. |

If it's not mouldy, stale or doesn't smell bad then yeah.
I can get an extra week out of my bread because it doesn't go bad until about two weeks despite the date on the pack being only a few days in advance. Best before dates are only a guideline anyway. I freeze all meat/fish as soon as I buy it so I don't have to worry about that going off. |

Never meat or dairy - those saying milk etc (and yes... Cheesecake...) it's really not a good idea, you can give yourself an off stomach with dairy that has turned very slightly but still smells/tastes fine. Probably not going to do any damage but you might end up feeling pretty nauseous for a day and spending some time on the toilet
![]() Things like bread are fine unless they're mouldy... And you'll know about it if there's even the slightest hint of mould because the taste is strong and obvious so you probably would neven swallow it. "Stale" bread (gone a bit hard) is fine if there's no mould, might not be appetising but is usually fine as toast. |
