Deny, Defend, Depose.

Republicans have defended the right of every private bakery to refuse to sell wedding cakes to gay folks. This is the same thing; private businesses can pretty much do what they like (within the law).

That's not true, they'll sell them a wedding cake, but they just don't do that specific design. It's the same as me going into Macdonslds and asking for a cherry pie and they tell me they don't do them, but they do apple pie.

Except these bakeries offered custom designs and they turned down gay designs because of homophobia. Bit different to going into a McDonald's an ordering something that's not on the menu.

...there are huge differences with the bakers and their refusal to bake the cake, though...the bakers didn’t apply any circumstances that people would be refused their products as in being a specific sexuality ...because it would have been illegal to do that/ to show prejudice in that way...no prejudice was shown with Trump, he was allowed to use the Twitter platform...but he abused the rules of it so was banned...it’s a better analogy to something like TiBB, surely...there is a clear and defined list of rules on social media platforms and encouraging violence is in breach of those rules...

Just to add my two cents... I think there is a comparison to be drawn with the BLM civil unrest tbqfh.
I find those actions far more personally understandable - but there is a huge difference between what is understandable and having empathy for anger... And making allowances for/excusing/encouraging violent uprising. I know that a lot of the BLM protests were peaceful and turned violent because of the actions of the authorities - but its disingenuous to claim that there were none that were deliberately actively violent. It shouldn't be allowed or excused in any form. All it does is legitimise others doing the same. "But my rioters are the good guys" just isn't going to work going forward. It should never have been cheered on as a positive. Last edited by user104658; 09-01-2021 at 05:31 PM. |

Sucks that he is banned from Twitch. I was hoping he'd start doing Fifa streams once he is unemployed.
He'll probably get his supporters to financially contribute to a new platform that'll never see the light of day, won't he? A grifter through and through. |

Large gatherings of people attract an unsavoury element that take advantage of a situation. No matter what the cause or occasion, they'll always show up. To give a terrible analogy, do the pickpockets at Glastonbury have anything to do with the official event organisers? We'd all agree, no but they still show up every year. I think I'd add to your post, the many attempts to associate the violence directly with BLM is equally disingenuous. As you point out, in many cases it was the actions of the authorities that caused many of the problems.

Who, Douglas?

They’re entitled to their religious beliefs... if they’re a Christian bakery they have every right to refuse special made designs that go against their beliefs... the bigger question is why would a gay couple be going to a religious bakery for their specially designed cake? They’re likely looking for a payout or for problems on purpose

By downplaying terrorism by comparing it to protests. You're so twisted out of shape about BLM that you're basically defending terrorism by laughing at a picture of a noose being set up on Capitol grounds and acting like BLM are still somehow worse.

The thing is that Twitter can't be associated with someone that incites terrorism, I'm not even that big on using Social Media personally, but they've done the right thing morally and more importantly to them they've done the right thing for Twitter as a business.
People (including Trump) need to be more careful what they say on Social Media.
