When I was working, it was such a hassle taking a train and then a bus every morning. I swore I'd get a car. Then I had enough money saved, picked out a few cars I liked, asked everyone I knew to come with me to collect it. Otherwise how would I bring it home and I needed someone with me who knew the first thing about cars. No one would come with me so I still don't have a car and it really affects me getting a job.

Aw You could always buy from a used car place and get a car with a warranty, make sure it's a reputable place though

I'd like to drive but I'd only really use a car for getting to and from work so it seems an unnecessary expense.

Could you not get a bus/taxi there and drive the car home?

Some places even drive the car to your home if you have any trouble going to pick it up.

She probably wanted to someone to look it over for her, especially if you're buying privately

Oh I thought she meant she was buying from a proper car dealer.

Yes, I would advise taking experts with you, I had to replace the clutch and the windscreen within the first two months on my car.

And make sure it's a car dealer with a good reputation, a couple of years back I bought a car from a used car place in Dublin and got a 6 month warranty with it, I started having problems straight away but i fixed the first few things myself (a radiator and a problem with the exhaust) because I didn't want to bring it all the way to Dublin, then after about 2 months the gear box went so i had to get it towed back up, the garage said yeah no problem we'll fix it, then a couple of weeks later I got a phone call telling me it was fixed and it would cost €3500, I was like umm i have a warranty on that and he told me, my car wouldn't be leaving on 4 wheels if i didn't pay it and he was adding interest for storing it everyday it stayed there.

Then I checked out the garage (should have done that before i bought the car d'uh) similar stories all over the place. A relative of mine is a police officer and he checked them up and apparently the garage is a drug front and the owners and workers there all have serious records. Anyway, long story short i never saw the car again but I eventually got my money back after a couple of years and a decent solicitor

Bloody hell. Did the relative not have them all busted for the drugs?

Nah, they were already well known to the Police. You know how it is, their hands are tied on alot of stuff. he did come in handy for some other stuff (which i can't really go in to) though. It was miracle we even got the money back tbh

never thought of that actually. I'd be so afraid there would be something wrong with it though, but I guess with a warranty I should be safe

I don't have a licence. Well, I have an expired provisional. I took lessons and all but I realized I really needed a car of my own to learn in and then get a full licence.
