Well may be the don't feel they will get the uptake that Channel 4 got in the past and the profit levels were low. I guess we will never know unless they tell us straight, but like you said:

Clearly that is up to them, but I think we are all forgetting that there would have been no Big Brother on UK television at the moment if it wasn't for Channel 5. They brought the rights to air the show and the right to put there stamp on it. Without them it just wouldn't exist but as a memory.

Do we have evidence of there being meeting as such where the producers tell them what to do? There is a lot of talk about scripting going on which the follow up show was making fun of the other night and rightly so. I don't think they would script it. One of the Celebrities would spill the beans as soon as they got out of the house for the cash and press coverage. It just not going to happen.

Any messing with the show is going to upset the BB purists but it has changed year in and year out. It is nothing like the show that it was when it started that was billed as a human experiment. It is much more of a game show by the time it ended on Channel 4, with house mates being players rather subjects. May be Channel 5 are just taking that side of it a bit further than Channel 4 did.
The show has to keep developing or it will become stale and lifeless as a format and people will turn off.

I can understand how many people feel gutted, and how not having a live feed affects the forum and their enjoyment of the show, but if it not going to happen it is no good going on and on about it. You can only do what you can done and if Channel 5 don't want it you will never get it. You can't force their hand.
If 86,000 people turn off so what, that still leaves them 2.3 million or so viewers.
They will have done enough market research to know the changes won't have a massive effect on the audience numbers and the production company won't let them do to much that affects the ratings and possibility of having their contract renewed in two years time.
I keep thinking they are moving the show towards the "get me out of here" style of programming with the house mates commenting on the tasks etc with Big Brother as the interviewer, not sure if I like it yet, but I willing to live with it and have Big Brother on the TV again.
