It isn't down to anyone to argue their corner against those throwing around such allegations. Some choose to in response to the arrogance of those who think they have the right to make such judgements on people according to who they voted for in a public vote

To call people bigots based on that is bigoted. It is also easy for people who cannot justify their thinking with anything other than the use of a simple, insulting word.
