It SOUNDS as if they have executed EXACTLY the important message which they intended.
Whichever way you interpret the final scene, be it a 'coping mechanism' as Niamh proposes, where Max uses abstraction to anaesthetize himself from the horrific reality of being sexually abused, or whether the film's creators WANTED to impart to naive young minds that having one's genitals fondled is absolutely THE most pleasant experience ever, hence the flying, fireworks, flowers and 'happiness' - ALL appealing elements to a child - this film is nothing but perversion sinisterly housed inside a 'Trojan Horse' of a 'Children's Movie'.
