Even relative to population the number of school shootings in the US is off the charts compared to any other country anywhere in the world. They do very rarely happen elsewhere but in terms of being a regular occurrence, the US is genuinely unique, in the entire world.

It's worth noting though ... that's including other nations with few gun controls. So the gun laws aren't the whole story. It's a bizarre cultural phenomenon that's going to be very hard to solve at this point. I strongly suspect there'd still be a statistically much higher rate of school attacks in the US even if guns were banned completely. Home-made weapons, makeshift explosive devices etc. would probably be used.
