Why ordinary people(not army or whatever) are allowed purchase weapons like that first one especially is beyond me but no point in even mentioning that anymore, seems a lot of Americans care more about owning a gun than the lives of innocent people and children

we just don't think the same way as americans. Every time i hear about these tragic shootings, there is next to no comment from americans other than the families directly affected. Politicians make noises, but its pretty obvious they couldn't care less and are just mouthing platitudes

Things like this will continue to happen unless they take a serious look at the mental health epidemic they’re currently ignoring and tighten up the gun laws so people that shouldn’t have access to guns, don’t get access to them, unfortunately in a southern state it’s probably easier than most places to get easy access to one, profit over lives, the American way

Even relative to population the number of school shootings in the US is off the charts compared to any other country anywhere in the world. They do very rarely happen elsewhere but in terms of being a regular occurrence, the US is genuinely unique, in the entire world.

It's worth noting though ... that's including other nations with few gun controls. So the gun laws aren't the whole story. It's a bizarre cultural phenomenon that's going to be very hard to solve at this point. I strongly suspect there'd still be a statistically much higher rate of school attacks in the US even if guns were banned completely. Home-made weapons, makeshift explosive devices etc. would probably be used.

Just because some official articles go into anal detail (necessarily or otherwise) about the gender identity of these attackers doesn’t mean that we need to be concerned about it. None of that detracts from the fact that 6 innocent people were killed.

I've got no stats at hand (currently) to back this up, but transmen often have childhood sexual trauma. I'm not about to victim-blame those who were individually shot, but I wouldn't be surprised if it transpired that this person had been on the end of sexual abuse while at that school.

I think comparing with Mexico is the most stark example there - Mexico has major violence problems, guns absolutely everywhere, and a population 1/3 that of the USA. But even scaled for population the US had more than 10x more school shootings in that period. Just under 10x for South Africa - another notoriously violent country with a lot of guns in the population. "Shooting up the school" is such a strangely specific US issue, and I've never seen any real explanation proposed for that.

it is odd, I think you'd have to maybe do a some sort of a study on the people who do these though to try and find any sort of explanation. I wonder if anybody has ever tried to do that? You'd think they would have, if they're not going to restrict guns at least see why schools are the targets.

going back to the case i remember the most, it was a young female, she killed loads of kids, teachers and police at the school, and she did it simply because she didn't like Monday's

A large element of it must just be the copycat effect. In Japan if you want to end everything you wander off into the forest; in America you shoot up a school. There's also a huge mental health epidemic in the States partly driven imo by the overprescription of drugs.

Michael Moore tried to look at the reasons behind it all in Bowling For Columbine but I've never actually watched it
