I don't think a hijab makes any difference, but a bhurka is something else entirely..

im about as tolerant as can be when it comes to religion... but this would be a very bad idea.

Children need to know and trust the faces of teachers. You need to be able to tell a child off, you need to be able to praise them, and christ, you need to be able to bloody smile at them. I know that your eyes can show emotion, but seriously, you need everything else when teaching too...

The world has gone a bit mad with all this 'religious rights' nonsense.

i dont think its just 'religious rights' though... i totally get what you mean, but its all kind of 'rights' that are nonsense IMO

people use it as an excuse. and i think at the end of the day (or century, w.e) it will do us more damage than good.

we spoke about this at work today. a lot of them had seen a certain religion protesting outside a mcdonalds for having a say about a recent 'confrontation' in another country. We were saying how its funny how it's okay to hate on one thing, yet they wont hate on other companies (because then need them... EG, telephone companies etc)

People often choose on what to hate and what to be 'offended' by.

i think a lot of that comes into what you've just said. People are taking things way to far these days.

There is no need to “panic” about Muslim primary school teachers wearing the full-face veil in class, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Williams, has insisted.

He said concerns that young children would struggle to learn from a woman whose face was covered were “largely misplaced” and that there are other ways to "read” what people are saying.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/reli...-Williams.html

what do you think?
I think he is publicity seeking.

Under no circumstances should this ever be allowed. Our young children are our future and should not be subjected to being taught by women wearing the equivalent of a rather scarey halloween costume that can only serve to inhibit identity and effective communication between teacher and young children which is essential for young children to learn.

Communication and the ability to communicate effectively is included in most job adverts today as it is so relevant in today's world, and approximately 70%of communication comes from facial expressions and body language. The whole stupid idea flies in the face of common sense and the skills required to teach vulnerable young children who should not be used to further an agenda.

Also what message does it give to them that women should cover their faces to keep their insecure and controlling husbands happy.

It it ludicuous that our society should pander to the nonsence believed by these 'men' who think their women are either so gorgeous, or as their property, should not be seen by other men who might lust after them or worse - maybe they shouldn't judge all men by their own primitive standards.

It's wrong imo,I wouldn't want my kids taught by a faceless person, they would see no emotion from their teacher and sorry it doesn't belong here.

Never mind just in schools, why should anyone be allowed to wear any kind of face-concealing outfit in these very turbulent and dangerous times?

I'll repeat my little WaterHog inspired ode - 'Ban Them'

Ban Them

Ain't no hard task when a man wears a mask
Ban them.
Ski-Masks on workers, women in burquas,
Ban them.
Should never be no head concealed
Make it law all heads be revealed.
In banks and shops there's great palava
If anyone enters in balaclava
But nothing said at certain races
With hijabs covering up their faces
Ban them.
Life will always be much better
Without idiots in masks from V for vendetta
Save a life of future sorrow
By outlawing nutters in half-masks like Zorro
Ban them.
Or I predict a rather bleak vista
Ban them
Or in the words of Arista --
"Just fecking ban them."

I am now busy composing one about banning out-of-touch, attention seeking, senile old Church personages from opening their mouths.
