Default CofE churches may soon only open at Easter and Christmas

One in four parishes has fewer than ten worshippers
  • Centuries-old churches across the country may shut doors for most of year
  • Church of England now has fewer than 800,000 worshippers on Sundays
  • Drastic overhaul could see thousands turned into 'festival churches', which only open on major religious holidays after Church of England proposals
  • Anglican church is still spending £160million a year maintaining buildings

Never happen round here. Our local C of E Primary School won't let new kids go there if they have'nt been going to the local church for a couple of years before. The vicar has to sign a form to vouch for you.Keeps the church busy.

I don't agree with faith schools tbh, people from different religions should mix. It's not good for society to separate everyone.

(I also don't agree with all-boys and all-girls schools)

Wouldn't be surprised if it happened to our village Church. I last went Christmas before last and even then there were only about 10 people there We do have a CofE school here as well but that has barely any pupils either

I've been to church this morning to see my little boy in his first harvest Festival play,it was lovely, I love churches and it would be a shame to see some of them closed through the year.

There are plenty of opportunities for them to integrate in other areas my kids went to catholic primary, and both went on to non faith secondary, it didn't pose a problem for them, I think you underestimate kids ability to adapt, what they are taught about equality and diversity home are far more important

no child should be exposed to any cult or superstition. They should be taught the best of our knowledge that has been fully peer reviewed not some middle eastern utter bollocks form 2000 years ago

Its a bloody disgrace and shame on a parent who would put a kid to a "superstition school"

Fair enough. I agree that what you're taught at home is more important also.

I don't have a problem with sunday schools or extra-curricular activities provided by religious organisations but I am not a huge fan of segregation.

Given the decision, I probably wouldn't ban faith schools altogether but the schools need to do a lot more to show other aspects of society.

Atleast in our local C of E school there is a priority list for entry.Kids with sibblings already there, then Practicing C of E,then people who practice another religion and then it's people with no religion last. There are only so many places though so the people with no religion like my kids don't really have a chance.

Why would you want your kids to go to a faith school though if you don't have that particular faith

My best friend went to an all-girls school, she's no different to me and still had contact with boys. I don't think it really matters. In fact, I think it's better. People generally do better in their exams in same-gender schools.

My son has not been Christened, we do not attend Church and he has no siblings. He still got a place at our local C of E school which happens to have the best ofsted report of all the local schools. It's not as hard to get them in as it used to be.

I went to an all girls school and I disagree a little. I had an older brother and went to a mixed primary so did always have male friends but some girls at school had no contact with boys and didn't know how to interact with them.. When they left school those girls went one of two ways in the main....they either turned very promiscuous at Uni or continued being very introverted. I would never send my child to a single sex school after my experience (even though I had no problems).

It's close and it's a good school and i went there.I turned out alright and it honestly did'nt affect my beliefs one way or the other.I just sang hymns in the morning and went to church for events like harvest etc.I'd be happy for my kids to go.I know loads of people who did the whole church thing just to get their kids in.I did'nt but i've got my eldests name down anyway.

My school was like some Catholic witch coven.

How I would avoid entering the chapel at all costs:

Notice how all the windows are shaped like a mans genitals and the large organ is another clue.

I agree Josh. I think personally that all schools should be secular. I do think religion should be studied with all religions studied equally. No one can decide they don't believe in God if they know nothing about him.

If people want to study their own religion, they can still do that, I did. But it was outside school hours.
