If you're just eating with close family then go for it.
But if you're eating with a load of people it'll get annoying being asked by EVERYONE why you're a vegetarian and being told your views are pointless.

I like the idea of not being traditional. Not at Christmas no but at family meals. This was when I was younger though and would always result in me getting told off for being rude or cheeky to the adults who were asking me.
