Default If India wasn't trans, would her "drag phobia" still be acceptable?

I feel like she's getting a free pass with her "phobia" because of her being trans. If someone like Jess or Malika had said they had a fear of drag queens, and sulked and moaned at the sight of someone dressed in drag, would they be considered homophobes?

India is getting a free pass on a lot of behaviour because of being trans I think.

And no of course it would not be acceptable India would be labelled a bigot, if not for India being trans. Possibly labelled homophobic also.

No and it was really rude of her to say that, if one of the other HMs had said they had a phobia of Trans people she would have had a melt down, she already did when Genuwine said he wouldn't date a trans person

True, people just think "oh but she's transgender herself so she can't be dragphobic" or whatever the word is

Is she getting a free pass? Nobody dismissed it on this forum anyway and a lot of people including myself spoke out against it

I don't actually think it is homophobic :/ many drag queens are straight and it's not an expression of sexuality or even personal identity (I know some drag queens do have issues with also being trans but those issues are still distinct from being a drag performer), and having a fear of somebody wearing a costume is actually pretty common, plus I think India's particular problem comes down to the association many people have between trans people and drag queens. It's very different to transphobia though in that the trans person isn't dressing in a costume, the fear is about them as a person. It's obviously very rude to say you have a fear of drag queens, especially when you are living with one! But I'm not convinced it's on the same level, and in India's case I can understand where she's coming from (although I'm not justifying her rudeness).
I actually think the opposite to what the OP is saying and I think the reaction to India being the person to say it is stronger because she's transsexual, and people linking trans with drag and India's objections to transphobia as being the same as how a drag queen might feel about somebody having a phobia of people in drag, and so it's being called a hypocrisy, but personally I don't see it that way. Had anyone else said they had a fear of drag queens, I really don't think it would have been made into such a big issue.

You do get straight drag queens. I know one..calls himself 'Miss Bell End'. Wearing 'womens clothes' does not necessarily make someone gay. Men can be feminine too. As I understand it too, most transvestites are straight.

I can’t help but question if she really is transgender in her head. I think she might simply have a personality disorder, never fitted in and thought becoming a woman would be the answer to her problems.

Maybe she thought being a woman would be easier or get her more attention. She is forever attention-seeking and generally a pretty sad Person tbh. MAybe her problems go far deeper than her sex.

She has’n’t been a trans that long has she and is a lot older. She may find that, far from getting more attention, women are more likely to get dismissed by society as they get older and that being a woman is not all fun and games. I may be way-off but she is a strange one.

For someone who allegedly finally became what she always thought she was she is pretty damn miserable with it unless she is the centre of attention. Something very wrong there.

This. I think she is entitled to her opinion. Nothing "unacceptable" about it. Though I don't quite buy the "phobia" part... she seems phobia free to me

My take on this was when I read an article on her and it called her every sort of
Brave, inspirational, high flying career, trailblazer for transgender issueswoman etc etc

I think she wanted to believe this and went into the CBB house expecting the same adulation. She had preached her life story to journalists, Lorraine, Loose Women and saw herself as these sycophantic articles had portrayed her. They obviously hadn't challenged her or even disagreed, so she thought she was totally right in her stance.

As they say, if you are being false, you cannot keep it up for long and when she didn't automatically get the accolations she previously enjoyed, her real sniping nasty self emerged.

She really would like to be about 25 to 30 years of age, hence her dress sense but the fact she can only be older middle aged is upsetting for her, she only has 8 years to retirement.

Poor unhappy resentful India, there are many issues not working for her but she needs to work on her attitude and personality as her gender transition has been dealt with. She has had £14,000 of the NHS so it is about time she counted her blessings.
