When it comes to offence, its like comparing apples with oranges. Whist Hilton is rude, crude, loud and manic, Hopkins causes emotional trauma whilst hiding behind that assassins smile. Hilton is supported by those who are empathic, and Hopkins is supported by the more apathatic type.

I do think that some perspective should be maintained sometimes. Katie Hopkins is not a figure of any real influence in the country, she does not have any real say in how the government is run, she does not even have the privilege to engage with or have an impact on any of those who can affect things. The best she can hope for is a farcical argument on This Morning, a few column inches in the Sun, a place on the panel alongside White Dee on a trashy debate show. And those things basically mark the pinnacle of her career, there is no reason to act like she could actually pose a danger to anyone. You could argue she feeds negative attitudes and stereotypes but I think her role is pretty minimal in that really, there are dozens of others who have a worse impact and there are dozens of others whose good impact far outweighs anything KH could hope to affect. If people were to ignore her then she would fade away rapidly and very few would remember her a few years down the line, she knows that though so will cling on to the spotlight desperately for as long as she can.

I don't think either Hopkins or Hilton are sick or evil they are both just self righteous, arrogant and up their own arses. I doubt either would behave the way they do or say the things they one to one without the security of a computer monitor or film crew as their backing. Both say things for shock value and both fail pretty miserably for me...

I'm glad to live in a country where people have the right to express opinions that others may find offensive. Democracy is not some 'one size fits all' comfortably-numb state of eternal, mutual agreement. It is the right to disagree and challenge others, which is going to be uncomfortable for some people sometimes and for others at other times; that's perfectly healthy and good for all our evolution.

Just look at the countries/regimes where the right of free expression is repressed and even punished. Who'd want to live like that?

Seeing as you mentioned the events 70 years ago; that WW2 generation of grandparents (or parents, friends etc) fought Nazism in order to preserve and maintain our democracy and free expression. Yes that means rights even for Katie Hopkins and all the others you disagree with! That is something to be grateful for and not to be forgotten or dismissed every time some two-bit celebrity has an argument or posts a tweet you don't like.

There are lots of opinions (and people) who offend me. But i would never dream of taking away their right to do so.

I don't hate KH but don't approve of her either and this is why...

Jeremy Kyle, Katie Hopkins, The Sun and the Daily Mail and reality tv programmes are setting up a new wave of old-style snobbery. Whilst some find this sort of snobbery offensive, we must keep in mind that all of those listed above find the struggling classes offensive too. Katie Hopkins message to the public is, if you're not middle class and you don't embrace middle class values and lifestyle, you deserve to be ridiculed and hated.
