Your sig is a photo of a toddler smoking a cig. So presumably on some level, you find the threat of cancer amusing?

Seconded. The pic of a baby smoking a cigarette really is in the worst possible taste. It is truly nasty.

I'll have to take your word for it. Otherwise for me it would just depend on the usage.

I was in the hospice as my aunt lay dying and I don't find it offensive at all.

My mum in law died in my arms high on morphine and drowned in her own bodily fluids and it breaks my heart every single day so i find it highly offensive, call me sensitive, call me what you want, i think cancer is an evil disease that robs people of their loved ones and is a term that should not be used lightly.

I'm genuinely so sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is to see somebody deteriorate before your eyes, it's the hardest thing I've ever been through and I do understand you being offended and that's absoloutely fine

I've lost family and friends to cancer and I find that it's completely acceptable

I'm not overly sensitive so maybe that's something to do with it, or maybe because the word 'cancer' doesn't just mean the disease. I don't know, though. Regardless, worse things have been said, and people are grasping at straws - which is understandable, it's hard to justify anything Bear does, so instead they twist things to make him the victim.

It doesn't bother me personally. I get why it could be offensive, but I wonder if that's because of less familiarity with hearing it being used in that context rather than because of different levels of experience of dealing with the disease? (a genuine wondering, I'm not assuming other peoples experience)... I just know in my own experience that I've dealt with the disease with 2 close family members and a close friend (who was only 25 when she was diagnosed and it was one of the most horrific experiences I've been through) and thinking of it is really upsetting, but when I hear the term used in this context it doesn't remind me of that. Hopefully that doesn't make me a sociopath or something but I think it's just because the metaphor use of it is totally separate in my mind.

Why is this ridiculously overused cliché still a thing? People have very valid reasons for being annoyed by flinging the term "cancer" around so casually.

I'm not expecting everyone take issue with it but a little basic understanding as to why some people are wouldn't go amiss.

And I'm no Bear fan whatsoever (but on the subject of your last point, I doubt this would have been defended half as much had he said it so I'd say people on both sides would be guilty of having a different response depending on who said it).

So first you drag me for using the term "faux outrage" and say it's not true. And then you drag people for the faux outrage I was talking about. Ok

It would be added to his list of 'funny moments' for sure. We none fans must learn that we can not say anything bad about the virtuous bear, for fear of upsetting him or fans. Im speaking as the mother of a son who had Leukemia as child(he survived). I didnt find it offensive, I took it the way it was meant in that Bear is a character who enjoys spreading negative vibes around, and can be very cruel. My son hates him even more than I do and thought cancer was a good word to describe how vile he is. If Bear had said it his fans would be agreeing with him, no doubt about it, the double standards have been bad this year.

Well known metaphor.
It wasn't directed at any of us personally so i dont see the need for all the fuss.
Had she said that she wished he was struck down with cancer then maybe that would have been different.
