so one imagines that you have to then disinfect taps after you wash?

and car doors, front door handles, bathroom door handle?

this all after you have washed your hands as the virus can stay on hard surfaces for 5 days

no

I am saying that if you have been to work and the advice is to wash hands when you get home (and lets face it you have touched your face and mouth umpteen times in the car) presumably one would need to disinfect the steering whel, car door inner, front door, bathroom door and taps after you wash your hands?

Well you can't realistically go around sterilising everything but washing your hands is something you can realistically do. I'm sure it all helps. Let's do nothing because we can't do everything is a defeatist and unhelpful attitude imo

The virus is spread by breath and by touch - i feel this advice is just to make us think we are doing something but logically its bollocks and about as useless as a mask

Bacteria is everywhere, not everything will harm you . But you have to just be as clean & hygienic as you can, no need to be obsessive over it.

Wash your hands, dry them with a disposable towel, clean the tap with the towel and throw the towel in the bin.

Try not and touch your mouth, nose or eyes. Also wash hands when getting home, and change clothes that have come in to contact with outside surfaces like chairs other people might have sat on.

Actually I meant to say, use the towel to turn off the tap after drying your hands instead of using it to clean it.

Maybe both work.

Still better than people just wetting their hands for a split second.

On the plus side if you have a company producing anti bac hand gel you are quids in and they wanted less people in Venice to protect the aging city and boy have they got it, so good for the planet, less flying, plus apparently China is not producing as much tut, though that myth was debunked today by the man who invented the Trunkie who said his orders from China were being fulfilled faster than before... me thinks China wants the Eurozone in recession

Dr. McLaws was the senior author of a 2015 study on face touching that documented the alarming number of times we do it. While medical students attended a lecture, the researchers filmed them and counted the number of times they touched any part of their faces. Over the course of an hour, students touched their faces, on average, 23 times. Nearly half of the touches were to the eyes, nose or mouth — what infectious disease researchers call “the T-zone.”

Other studies of primary care doctors, people doing office work, and students riding a simulated rail car have all found similar rates of touching the T-zone.

“I was really surprised,” Dr. McLaws said. “By touching your mucous membranes, you’re giving a virus 11 opportunities every hour if you’ve touched something infectious.”
