Comedian Tom Segura lays into to Smith. Rightly so, every comedien should be doing the same because it was more than just an attack on Rock, it's an attack on comediens. Well done to Jim Carrey and all the other comediens that have waded in so far.

I can see both arguments there to be fair. I mean, I didn't know that she had alopecia (or... umm... care... sorry ) but then I couldn't really give a stuff about anything celebrity-related on a deeper level than just "kinda liking gossip".

Howeverrr... I'm not going to be hosting the Oscars any time soon... you would think that someone hosting the Oscars WOULD be aware of celebrity news.

HOWEVERRR... it doesn't really matter if he knew or not. No one (I don't think?) is bothered that Will Smith didn't like the joke or that he got angry about it. The issue is a person letting their anger get the better of them and physically assaulting someone. I understand why it happens of course and I think if we're to be truly compassionate, no one should be "villified", you can point out that an action is wrong without saying "So that person is now a BAD PERSON!". I actually have more issue with the fact that he then refused to leave and sort of doubled down on his actions a bit - then only decided later that apologising would be a better idea.

Yeah I agree with you on that actually and he could have stood up for Jada and come out of it as "the good guy" had he for example said something about the joke while accepting his award

Honestly a dignified response calling him out for making a lazy, low-hanging joke and criticising his skill as a host and comedian would have hurt more than a slap, and with zero blowback.

Ricky Gervais would have still gotten stick , because as I keep saying when a British comedian goes across the pond and jokes about American celebrities then they get offended.


I can't stand James Corden but when he made tasteless jokes re the Harvey Weinstein scandal, he'l got alot of grief over it.

But Tina Fey & Amy Poeler happily joked about the Bill Cosby scandal and got no flack.

That unfortunately is the other less-talked-about part of this story. The idea of "tough guys defending their wives" is fairly toxic as well. If she didn't make a scene herself... perhaps she didn't want a scene to be made.
