HOWEVERRR... it doesn't really matter if he knew or not. No one (I don't think?) is bothered that Will Smith didn't like the joke or that he got angry about it. The issue is a person letting their anger get the better of them and physically assaulting someone. I understand why it happens of course and I think if we're to be truly compassionate, no one should be "villified", you can point out that an action is wrong without saying "So that person is now a BAD PERSON!". I actually have more issue with the fact that he then refused to leave and sort of doubled down on his actions a bit - then only decided later that apologising would be a better idea.

Yeah I agree with you on that actually and he could have stood up for Jada and come out of it as "the good guy" had he for example said something about the joke while accepting his award
