Default (New Update)Disney plan to bring films out on DVD 12 weeks after cinema

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Sho..._After_DVD_Row

New Update: 25-2-10
Odeon Has given in.

_______________________________________________

All to stop Illegal Downloads
so Alice In Wonderland is out on BluRay and DVD
just 12 weeks after the Cinema start.

Some Cinemas are not happy
and will not show this Film.

It makes good business sense
all to stop Pirate DVD's and downloads.

They do not worry about that.

Also BluRays come with a Normal DVD
as well.
So they see many as getting cheaper BluRay Players soon.

Im not bothered, Disney has went down hill now its bollocks tbh.

Toy Story 3 will be there last good movie, the rest will either involve the Jonas Brothers or Demi Lovato or it will be a animated thing about a Boy on an adventure which is getting boring now.

So they can do what they like, sounds like its failing.

As long as the Cinemas show Toy Story im not bothered.

Its good business sense though and sales will be higher than if they released it 6 months later. More people are likely to buy a DVD whilst the hype is dying down or whatever because people sometimes say they want to see a film and will get it when it comes out on DVD. But it takes too long to come out on DVD and by the time it is out, they've either seen a pirate copy or don't care anymore.

It's quite foolish to go ahead without Odeon really but I do quite like that they're making the gap shorter since most films spend too long at the cinema really. Most films make the most of their gross in the first 3 weeks or so, very few grow serious legs (Avatar's a recent exception).

The lack of Odeon will impact the UK gross although Disney's probably more bothered about the American gross.

On Avatar
you can not Bootleg the BluRay3-D
so they are in no rush.

Odeon are standing there ground
but it could hurt them more.

Most of the time, all you can get is a telesync copy before the video release anyway. Why would anybody want to watch a movie in such awful quality?

Odeon's the main UK cinema string though, It'll probably affect Disney more then them as it'll mean that Alice in Wonderland isn't showing in as many theatres. Then again it could create more of a rush with good word of mouth I guess. I find Odeon's boycott quite annoying really as I wanted to watch it and an Odeon is the closest cinema.

I'm quite interested how the Avatar dvd is going to work, I hope they manage to work the 3D somehow although it'll never be to the cinema standard, but for the love of god please leave the Red and Blue glasses out of it .

I'm annoyed at the Odeon boycott too. I always go to Odeon because I have a premiere club card but now I'll have to trek into town to see it in either Vue or Cineworld. Odeon is much better than both of them as well.

It's good business on Disney's part really. I mean, think of all the parents who get hounded by their litter to go and watch the latest flick at the cinema but don't have the money to take them all out for the day - it's fairly pricey, even for kids. I can see alot of parents willing to fork out a bit for the latest Disney Dvd just to keep them happy.
