I am moving out of the family home this Thursday and moving into a flat in Kirkcaldy (Fife) with my friend & older brother
![]() I don't find it daunting at all due to moving in with two other people and having travelled by myself/worked in the states, etc etc But just so I am extra prepared, does anyone have any wee tips to make life easier for when I begin to get settled? Anything I may not think about, and so on...

Have plenty of milk tea and coffee in stock for visitors. Covid permitting of course. Sigh.
Good luck Marc. Wishing you all the best. X

Once you finished unpacking I’d say go out and explore the new area you’ve moved to. Try and find the best route and maybe little shortcuts to your new place. I’d also look at public transport. Where’s the nearest train station? Bus stops? What times do the buses normally run? Which route goes where? Etc. Things like this will be useful at some point especially if you don’t drive so it would be best to have that all figured out as early as possible.
Good luck with the move tho Babayaro. Wish you all the best |

aw two of you flying the nest at the same time!
Are you moving much stuff? if you are boxing up anything write a brief note on the outside to remind you what is in there, saves time going through every box and finding it in the last one Make sure you have a nice warm duvet and bed throw - and a spare duvet cover/sheets be clean..when you get there have a kitty for essentials like TR/washing up liquid/bin bags, cleaning stuff, saves on arguments as to who bought what last : Finally have the best time

Don't get lazy with cleaning.
Cook decent meals (or learn to cook if you can't) and don't be tempted to constantly get take-away. |

...a few different country traditions for flying the nest to a first/new home etc...there are many, obviously...but some wouldn’t be possible or practical...
...burn a scented candle on your first day/evening..or as soon as practical ...a scent that you particularly love ...to add ‘your presence’ to your new home because you’ve arrived and are a part of that home... ...take a little salt and a little bread with you...the taking bread/meaning is for any of you to never be hungry...and the salt apparently represents that your food will never be ‘basic’ because of hard times financially... ...ring a bell...(..well, use the bell sound on your phone options...)...to symbolise the celebration of your new home and new life...something to definitely celebrate with bell ringing and such the like... ...I would always say, take gifts as well...chocolates, popcorn snacks, treats etc and maybe offer to buy the first shared Advent calendar as well...so long as you get to open Christmas Day... ...such a lovely next step in your life, Babs...I wish you joy in your new home... ..
