He comes of as pretty dominate, I admit. But it seems people hated him before this show even started.

He's always been very over the top so people just find him irritating or overbearing. I don't think its hate exactly, they just don't like him.

But a lot of gay celebrities are OTT and 'camp it up' and are not hated, but instead embraced, adored and gushed over. Not sure why such negativity for John when he does the same thing.
