It's like a weird cliche' , but TS if I was you and if it's been 12 years !!! and you're still disliked then I would have to confront the person and ask WHY . If you still get a frosty reception then sadly you'll never be close with your in laws .

They live 300 miles away in another country and we only see them 3 or 4 times a year, I don't think we're ever going to be bezzies . And to be fair at this point its perfectly polite and civil, which is fine .
