Honestly, I'd recommend for anyone to watch up until season 4 though. It's still a great show that I LOVED at one point I think the first 2-3 seasons were the best off the top of my head as well so you can't go wrong with having a 4-season TWD watch

In short, it's not really about "surviving against zombies" any more, they're pretty well adapted to "life with zombies" and how to deal with them as an everyday risk and the storylines are other things set against a post-apocalyptic backdrop.

Recently it's actually taken on a sort of "frontiersy" vibe (both shows) right down to the backing soundtrack but it sort of works .

But yeah it's become a character-based show which is why S6 - 8 had so many problems. Scott Gimple (TWD showrunner) wasn't doing any meaningful character development. He was replaced by Angela Kang and the show transformed overnight.

Oh actually I got mixed up a bit I loved S4, hated S3. I really didn't like them in the Prison at all. Seasons 5-7 were horrendous, 8 was mediocre and 9 was brilliant (oh and also loved the first 2 seasons)

Now I liked them in the Prison personally as I liked the more Horror feel the Prison had as you didn't know if anyone or anything was in there with the group, also I liked the psychological element of characters like Rick being more unhinged in the Prison.

That's the one great thing with a show like TWD though, and that's we all have taken something different from the programme which not many shows are capable of doing that nowadays.
