We can and should take them just like any other sterling bank note; however I would imagine, as with Scottish notes in England, inexperienced staff probably reject them out of fear that they're not "real money".

They're not that common though, I'd say I bank 1 or 2 Irish fivers a week and a very occasional 10/20.
