That excuse might - MIGHT - work if the guy is maybe 20/21 but a 30 year old has a responsibility to be totally sure that their partner is old enough unless they are obviously an adult... specifically BECAUSE lots of younger girls look older than they are.

If a staff member serves a 15 year old alcohol or any other age-restricted product on the grounds that "Well they SAID they were 18 and they definitely LOOKED 18, especially their body" it would not be accepted as an excuse for a second. |The age check training makes it clear over and over that "young people can look over 18!" and that you should always be cautious and the same should apply here. A 15 year old is a child and the adult is responsible for buying into their lie. Or let's face it - pretending to buy into the lie - because a lot of the time it's just that the older person knows fine well they're probably not 18 but thinks they can "get away with it" on the grounds that they were lied to.

A 15 year old can easily look 18. They're very unlikely to look 25+ and that's why lots of bars etc. have a "Think 25" (or even Think 30) policy these days. Sexually active adults should have the same mindset . If you don't KNOW the person well enough to be sure of their age, assume that "young" might mean underage.
