Back then you had to sign to say that you understood it was unacceptable to be gay in the armed forces and you would thrown out if it was found you were gay. Women also had to sign a piece of paper to say that if they got pregnant they understood they would be required to leave immediately. Things have changed, thank God.

They have. Although there was a survey lately showing acceptance towards lgbt actually going down. Worth watching
