3 to 5 hrs to process 1000s of people, if you maintain some perspective that's not long at all, they were screened for sometimes incurable diseases such as smallpox at the time.
Those being examined were so by docs that spoke their language if posible, were offered the chance to purchase a boxed lunch, and if they were detained for any reason given 3 meals a day for free.
To my mind that is as humane and fair as is possible when dealing with a huge influx of people.
