Apparently the only animal that could beat a Grizzly bear is a Polar bear and also a Bison would have a chance if he managed to gore him in the stomach before the bear had a chance to strike him

....I’m reading that a hippo as well, possibly....?...it’s larger and the skin is much thicker so less susceptible to bite/claw injury....

Hippos are angry kind of fellas alright but I wonder how much damage they could actually do to a bear? Their teeth are pretty sharp alright but they look kind of awkward to manoeuvre

...yeah this is quite interesting...definitely in a ‘water fight’, a hippo would win is what I’m reading...but in a land fight, the opinions seem to be more mixed...



The Hippo has powerful jaws and exceptional quickness. "On the National Geographic Channel television program, "Dangerous Encounters with Brady Barr", Dr. Brady Barr measured the bite pressure of an adult female hippo at 1,821 lb (826 kg); Barr also attempted to measure the bite pressure of an adult male hippo, but had to abandon the attempt due to the male's aggressiveness."

I think the Grizzly would try to circle around the Hippo to attack its more vulnerable flank, but fail. The Hippo could just turn in place.

The Hippo eventually kills the Grizzly by either trampling it underfoot, maiming it with a vicious chomp, or squashing it with a Sumo-style bellyflop.

This is all considering a dry land confrontation. In even 1-2' of water, the Grizzly would be practically defenseless.

Interesting. They are pretty cool animals, I watched a really good documentary about them recently, can't remember what it was called though

...I can feel an afternoon of Discovery channels coming on for me....(...maybe pjs and a blanket as well.....)...
