[Candy Annie Cane]

I worked in the states in 1996, in South Carolina abd there was still a massive white / black divide then. I was with some friends who had car trouble when we were on a road trip and we took the car to the garage and the owner would only talk to me (I was the only white person). Apparently, had I not been with them the car would not have been fixed. It shocked me at the time how blatant this guy was but they said that kind of treatment was just the tip of the iceberg.
