In The Office - the entire POINT of The Office - is that Brent isn't telling jokes that are funny ... Brent is the joke. And even then it's not intended that he's a joke to be laughed at - he's a joke to be pitied, because he does these things to try to impress people and make people like him... he tries to be "a friendly funny guy" because he's sad and lonely. But people don't think he's funny. His jokes are completely misjudged and fall flat. They think he's awkward and sexist/racist/whatever. That's literally the whole show.
To be fair, the part when the black guy didn't care about Brent's "joke" and it turned out the complaint came from a stuckup white woman was somewhat prophetic From what I've seen at least it's usually middle-class white folks who jump on the banned-wagon for things they think are offensive, while the "targets" just ignore it
