To be fair they are necessary when, for example, there's a belief that someone might be being held there against their will (kidnapping cases) but you'd expect there to be VERY, VERY strong evidence that the person is there and, ffs, double and triple checking that it's the right bloody door. I actually hardly ever take notice of statues anyway.
I don't see the need for them no matter the individual.
Certainly out on public display and then expecting everyone to respect them.

House them indoors if they are considered a necessity where those who want to can go and see them, if they want to.
I actually find statues creepy.

I fully agree with you however that the bad as well as any good elements of British history, should be taught in schools definitely.

There's a fair chunk of British history that is truly unsavoury, those who made it unsavoury at the time, shouldn't be revered in statues across the Nation in public places.
