Oddly enough the softest , most loving dawg that I have ever interacted with … including our own dogs ( Irish setters / Shetland Sheepdog / Italian Greyhound) was a rescue … purebred American Pitbull !!!

Certain types of dog aren't necessarily "vicious by nature", a lot of what makes these breeds so dangerous is physical rather than by nature. They have ridiculously strong jaws/bite strength and an instinct to "clamp down" and not let go. Basically it's the opposite to a retriever which will - normally - instinctually be relatively gentle when biting down and "drop" easily on command.

Any dog can lose control and attack but the consequences can be vastly different depending on breed.

Or for example... chihuahuas can be vicious as **** but for the mostpart all that's going to happen is nipped fingers. A pitbull can take your arm off.

Also worth noting that the way a dog interacts with people doesn't dictate at all how they are around other dogs. My mum had a little Border Terrier who was the sweetest little soul around human beings - butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, just a silly cuddly little thing.

... ... ... she could NOT be around other dogs, and would attack on sight. She would literally go for the neck of dogs 4x her size, it was horrendous trying to walk her, and really hard to train it out of her (we were never successful) because the behaviour was only present around other dogs.

Also, it was another person walking by,
their dog that started barking.

And she was tangled in all the dog leads
that she pulled them back
but that angry American Pitbull Dog
started attacking her.

So it all adds up
how it went so wrong
