If you talk about a musical arrangement, where for example a violin plays a particular line and a flute plays another etc etc it is suitable for copyright Last edited by bots; 03-05-2023 at 02:34 PM. |

Have you heard about the three-way suing over Radiohead's "Creep"?
Radiohead sued Lana Del Rey for "Get Free" ... ... but Radiohead was actually previously sued by The Hollies for copying "The Air That I Breathe" ![]() Last edited by user104658; 03-05-2023 at 02:57 PM. |

IIRC both, sort of, as both settled out of court for part of the royalties. I think both are undisclosed but it seems likely that Radiohead/Del Rey one was either over or exactly 40%, since it was known that they initially rejected an offer of 40% ... so if they did later settle, either they changed their minds on that figure or were offered more. I'd guess they got 50%.
Annoyingly of course, that means it's unknown how it would have gone if it had gone to court. Could literally have been awarded 100% of royalties, a split, or nothing at all ![]() |

Ed Sheeran tells NYC court he'll QUIT music
if he's found guilty of ripping off Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get it On' - as he brands $100M copyright trial 'insulting' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ource=Connatix Its all his Fault He sang his song, but then went into Lets Get It On merging the 2 tracks Live at a Concert. |

Remember that time Lily Allen tried to claim this one was just also just a coincidence?

Nothing lucky about it, it was never going to go any other way as I pointed out at the beginning of the thread

Hopefully sets precedent for future similar claims? I have a feeling that the other examples in the thread would probably have gone the same way IF anyone had been willing to let it go all the way to the courtroom. Seems like out-of-court settlements for a royalties %age have been the norm for this in the past.

I'm actually a huge fan of remixes, re-imaginings, covers and mash-ups in general so I genuinely want it not to be difficult for artists to draw on and use each other's work
