I certainly think there is an element of that in there, but Boris did flout the rules and he did lie. He has done the same throughout his entire political career.

People knew exactly what they were getting when they voted the tories in with a massive majority, but i don't think he has that level of support now and thats why I think he will be yesterdays news very quickly. Compare it to trump, and he has been much more successful at retaining his supporters

That doesn't preclude it being a stitch up, plenty of Tories had knives out for Boris for a long time

And the leader of that committee certainly had it in for Boris

So for clarity, you think Boris hasn't done anything wrong? Or not?

I think the reaction has been disproportionate to the offence

The breaking of rules was annoying but the offence was lying to parliament and the british public, i see that as very important.

If lying at the dispatch box is allowed, it sets a very very dangerous precedent for our country.

This is not disproportionate. This is literally defending democracy.

I find it hard to remain polite when debating these things, because unfortunately, the truth is that people like you, who enable his behaviour, are the very reason why this country is in its current state.

There was a time when people would have resigned for the notion that they had mislead parliament. This man lies, and lies about the lie and then trashes the committee that he requested conduct the inquiry.

The man has had £250k of our money to defend himself in this inquiry when he's earned £6m since September. During a cost of living crisis, when public services are beyond breaking point (his doing) and people can't afford to eat.

You're defending the indefensible.

Unbelievable.
