Ugh, professionalism reeks when someone has a bias against you for whatever reason. Some people will sack you just for breathing if they don’t like you.

Nothing to do with you, Nessy. Just try and write a complaint and get a transfer. The manager sounds like more bait than they’re worth.

I'm going to ask for a transfer. Surely any place is better than this. I'm constantly put down and I'm so miserable.

Duty Of Care and Mental health counts for everything these days and employers have to take responsibility…

Let’s just say (without going into too much detail) that I know someone very close to me who had the piss taken out of him by every white male member of staff bar one during a time when he was going through a really rough patch mentally (this was in the summer/autumn of ’21). The gossip that circulated to other people who had no business knowing his business (including a notorious gossip and so just-about the worst person you could ever tell anything confidential to) was something else. The guy glew up phenomenally when he got well again and the normal him came to light again but there was no duty of care or regard for his mental health whatsoever. Management are often fantastic when it comes to these things (and they were in this case) but lower down in the chain (especially with young men) there’s often no actual regard for those professional boundaries or right to privacy that you’d think people would just know without having to read the small-print or be told specifically. All it takes is one or two idiots to almost ruin someone’s life and they often get away with it. No apology, no nothing (they may or may not know how much the gossipee actually knows). They just walk away and land a new job, screwing up someone else’s life and reputation.

I know what you are saying and I agree. I had a Supervisor reduce me to tears and I had witnesses…she had a reputation. I took it further and the company backed her…the only satisfaction I got was that she had to sweat it out for a few months as I took it to 2 appeals….the CEO happened to be her friend…I had no chance!!

At least they respected your privacy (if not dignity and respect, granted, and I’m sorry you had to go through all that). In the example I was talking, the person wasn’t seen as inherently deserving of any of that (privacy no-less) until they got a bit better and was finally regarded as a human being worthy of respect. You get people who roll in and take advantage of the fact that they’re privy to confidential information about people and then gossip it to everyone with ears, obvious worst offenders included. That happens to a lot of people out there. I’m not going to bother cussing out individual people (not even your supervisor) but sometimes stuff like this needs to go through to HR the day it happens and people sacked. The longer it’s left the longer it becomes hard to prove (especially if a turnover happens).

Unfortunately people protect each other at the top...I went through an independant company for Bullying in the work place which forced the CEO to set up procedures...I had witnesses..in a court she wouldnt have had a leg to stand on but when she's friends with the CEO the manipulation of the truth was sickening. This happens in workplaces everywhere and its soul destroying.

Soul-destroying and sickening.
