There seems very little empathy for British jews on this thread, they are not responsible for what the Israeli government is doing 3,000 miles away, many will oppose it and Israelis have demonstrated against Nethanyahou and his government.... I feel like some people are actually relishing the discomfort British jews are experiencing that is my take, might be wrong of course, Palestine and its citizens have huge support and they can take some comfort from that, who is supporting the comforting the famiilies of the kidnapped they cant even put up posters in the UK, Jewish schools have security and have been told not to wear their uniforms openly,, and the spineless FA couldnt even light up the arch after 1400 innocent citizens were in the most part tortured and then murdered. It is possible to have empathy for both sides you know

it highlights the very real antisemitism that is going on because British jews have in the majority, absolutely nothing to do with Israel

Well it's a newspaper opinion piece so will be a bit editorial but it's great writing imo

That phrase in particular is a very loaded one which many people consider to be anti-Semitic because it basically calls for the elimination of Israel as a state. Even if you argue it doesn't mean that, it's still divisive and contentious yet will be parroted by many who often blind themselves to the sensitivities of the conflict and to the true colours of their allies because they romanticise the Palestinian cause.

The 'and' is that maybe they should take a step back and think about who they are supporting and think about why so many Jewish people now feel unsafe in the UK and Europe. The 'and' is that maybe there should be more acknowledgement that aspects of Palestinian leadership are part of the problem and also contributing to death. It's not sneering at them for holding radically different views, it's about what those views mean for Jewish people and people in Israel. I think instead people would often rather overlook that and instead just reassure themselves - 'I don't hate Jews though'.

Interesting to refer to a 'literal existential struggle' because for many people in Israel that basically sums up the history of the Jewish race.
