Psychologists would have a field day studying these two. What's interesting is that normally killers like this come from really broken homes and traumatic childhoods but it doesn't really sound the case here. Not from whats been reported anyway but that's obviously not the full story

When you have multiple killers it's very rare that both are equally the driving force... basically not many people are actually ever motivated to commit senseless murder so two of them just happening to befriend each other in the same school would be exceptionally rare. What isn't rare, of course, is people being easily led by someone influential.
I wouldn't really speculate in this case as there's been a lot of hearsay. It does (somewhat) seem that it was the girl who had a fixation with killing someone, and the guy was convinced to get involved by her. Which obviously means he wasn't exactly in good psychological health either - but he might not have actually committed an act of violence without encouragement/prompting.
