That didn't help.

And I suspect (and I do hate to be the one that keeps bringing this up in discussions) that some guys didn't like the fact that their girlfriends were fancying the lead singer, I'm willing to make a bet that some (not all) had that level of insecurity about their relationship.

Well I know that some women did back in the day.

And I also think that my Mom did to some extent too, although nowhere near as much as Ronan Keating or David Beckham.

I watched clips on YT , Olly's voice was weak & forgettable it's as simple as that . And the staging was not going to make him win , it was obviously done as a silly distraction, that's literally all I remember ,I don't remember the tune.

And before people keep moaning about Olly getting criticism, it's the Eurovision ....where everyone is judged and scrutinised.

Olly's voice just wasn't up to it, and the song was dull. Even Switzerland out shined him , Nemo could actually sing , despite the obvious bias politics going on.

I will accept that his voice wasn’t brilliant on the night BUT he was jumping around and contorting his body into crazy positions PLUS he is a naturally nervous guy so having the weight of his nation on his shoulders obviously took its toll and it’s been reported that the UK entry had sound issues.

He has got an absolutely beautiful voice though as he’s proved over the years with countless live tv performances where he’s in the minority of singing live rather than miming

.... .and that's your view which you have every right to have and express

Just the same as those like myself who are strong fans of Olly.
Who also see Eurovision differently and would disagree
As it's moved a long way now from being just a song, really song contest.

I've actually only watched the stagings of ALL the Eurovision entries twice.
On the semi finals night on the BBC.
Plus on the Final itself.

I don't think after any Eurovision I've ever looked again at a video of any entrant over the years following.
Certainly I'd never even think of doing so on one I didn't even like .

Eurovision is now past
It's unlikely here in the UK we will hear little to even nothing eventually of Nemo from Switzerland soon.
Or any other of the entrants this year.

By the end of the year we'll be looking to the next Eurovision and I'd suspect some other unfortunate sacrificial British singer putting themselves forward for crumbs of votes from either the juries or the public
Which has been the usual norm for the vast majority of UK entrants over the last 25 years.

Well aren't people still talking about Lorleen what's her name from last year? , so it seems some winners still leave an impression. So you'll probably hear quite a bit about Nemo until we move onto the next .

Whether Olly had sound issues or got nervous singing live ,his performance just wasn't good imo , and I found it boring .... , all I took from that performance was guys in boxer shorts acting suggestively. He's not the
only Eurovision performance I disliked.

I actually think he was better in the year & years days, and had more memorable tunes. I still think of his hit ' I
was a king under your control ', that was a bop .

I think that you are simply more familiar with his old songs and King .. I love his old stuff and his recent solo album equally

Dizzy is a fabulous, infectious pop song

We don't hear much of Eurovision entrants or winners much in the UK after the contest.
Sadly because it used to be I believe a springboard to international success.

Olly actually is still the same as in Years and Years days and I agree 'King' is a classic of his along with others, I love 'Shine'.

On his last album, still under Years and Years although his solo work in 2022.
I also loved the song 'Sweet Talker' from his number one album 'Nightcall'.
I really like Dizzy too, especially his totally stripped back take he's done on it.

It's actually sad really that Eurovision is going down the road of out of the ordinary and perhaps controversial stage effects and staging.
It's like concerts too, they are going for outlandish staging.
Being honest, I didn't like most of the effects or staging of the majority on Eurovision.

The one I liked most was the simplest in my view
The French guy singing his song and using his voice.

However it's how shows like this are now, having effects, routines and staging which more detract from the songs and hinder the artistes.
I can't see Eurovision changing though and only expect the staging and performances to be staged even more wildly in future.

As I said on here somewhere, I have a dvd of past Eurovisions from 1956 to 2014.
It only shows snippets of who came in the top 3 of the contests.
I have to admit I really enjoy that dvd immensely.
In the last 7 years at least, although I have still a party night on Eurovision.
Once it's over, I haven't looked back over the last few Eurovisions at all afterwards.

Nice talking to you GoldHeart.
