I mean it's not that they're making light of it, it's meant to be a "raw" comedy, but all I can really say is... it plays out like a random couple who have been coasting through their normal life have suddenly been handed an LD 9-year-old and have no idea what to do. For THAT it seems pretty accurate. Like... they could have had the girl's mum and dad be divorced, the mum dies, and the girl has to go live full-time with dad and his wife who have to re-learn parenting and how to live. There you go, totally fine as a show. But that's not what it is, it's meant to be her actual parents, but it plays out like they've just been plonked in this situation . Realistically you start with a "normal baby", you have a toddler where some things seems slightly different, you start really noticing at 2/3/4... you grow, learn and adapt together. Parents of an LD child who seem bewlindered that their child has LD and are still flailing and panicking constantly ... is just not accurate or realistic whatsoever. And makes it seem to the casual BBC viewer like those of us with actual LD kids are at home in a constant state of chaos.
