I really just don't understand how things like this are not known at the BBC.
However surely there were some tell tale signs.

Of course then Jimmy Saville fooled just about everyone including one of the strongest PMs the UK ever had in Mrs Thatcher.

Cases like these however show some massive wrongs in the processes of the BBC and how it monitors it's staff.
People talk about hindsight being an excuse on issues.
Well now with the knowledge and hindsight on Edwards.
I feel sick inside I watched him, on news, election programmes, Royal events and it's even tarnished the announcement of the late Queen's death too.

Thinking now I was hanging on to everything this creep was presenting to us.

People need to wake up and smell the coffee, Thatcher knew Saville was a pedo...and even if she wasn't sure , the rumours were flying around yet she still associated with him. Plenty of people knew what Saville was up to and either turned a blind eye or instead just whispered about it.

'The reckoning' was a real eye opening at just how sleazy and manipulative he was. He thought and knew he could get away with his crimes, he kept treating it like some ' little hiccup he can cover up / make go away ' . He distracted everyone with so called charity work , he wanted to be seen as some saint . Truly sickening creature .

So the exact same will likely be with Edwards, especially if he was as bold as this with texts messages and arranging to meet etc. people probably had a feeling Edwards was a perv .
