'The reckoning' was a real eye opening at just how sleazy and manipulative he was. He thought and knew he could get away with his crimes, he kept treating it like some ' little hiccup he can cover up / make go away ' . So the exact same will likely be with Edwards, especially if he was as bold as this with texts messages and arranging to meet etc. people probably had a feeling Edwards was a perv .

the 70's and 80's were a completely different time, society wasn't the same as it is now. The term pedo didn't exist
When I was at school we had a headmaster that was a pedo. All the kids knew that he liked to touch up little boys, but he remained headmaster for years. Nobody thought to call the police or anything like that, they just kept out of his way
