I am saying that whoever is giving value in the moment is the one they often protect. I don't think that's always Lily... I think they have protected others at different times.

If Lily is giving more value than others and has been protected more.. Well, by definition that shows she has overall been a better HM than others.

TL;DR; The 'chosen one' shifts constantly in a season depending on who is helping create the best TV show at any given time. That's all I am saying.
