…did you write to your MP as well…?…it’s crazy isn’t it that all of the onus is on the tax payer to resolve any type of owed payment…

No I hadn't got around to it when this plot twist happened, will see if now that we can prove payment and the amount that this will resolve the issue, I mean it should...but its the tax office so who knows

…if only you could bill them for the time that you’re having to spend on this all as well…good luck, I’ll be pleased for a good outcome and quite quickly also…

There has been a further twist, I misread the message and thought it was for just the year 16/17 but it is for both years, the idea that HMRC just didnt bother to chase up two years of missed corporation tax payments is just idiotic, anyway the bank have been great and have provided the dates and the amounts paid, although the accountant says they might still request bank statements... Urgh

Been meaning to update on this, though we could prove payments, the accountant said he had many cases like ours and once HMRC started queries like this they would just rumble on and keep the case open for years and we would just be racking up accountancy fees, so his advice was to accept what they had refunded even though it was wrong and to close the case ....fuming...but we had no choice

@Ammi
…thanks for that, Cherie…the update is very much appreciated……but not the resolve that has any sense of right to it …and the thing is that the tax department know this from the outset, that’s so geared in their favour and going to inevitably be a lose in terms of pursuing for the tax payer, who have followed rules and procedures and done everything correctly…the system is so terribly flawed and deflating, I feel so much for you…

I was very cross but have let it go now our accountant said they could ask to us to provide paperwork from years past and that we could end up owing them more money so it was better to cut our losses, its just such a huge juggernaut of a department and it takes them so long to respond to any queries it would have dragged on and we feel in hindsight we have done the right thing as they basically have the tax payer over a barrel, no one wants to get in HMRCs line of sight
