Default algebra help? D:

In football matches 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 point is awarded for a draw, no points are awarded for a loss. Jim's football team will play 20 matches next year. He expects his team to win p of them, draw q of them and lose the rest of the matches. Write down an expression, in terms of p and q, for

a) the total number of matches Jim expects his team to lose next year.
b) the total number of points Jim expects his team to be awarded next year.

can someone give me the answer and explain how they got it pls? i srsly can't work it out.

How in the name of all that is good can a football team win P matches? Maths is silly.

20 - (p+q) = losses is the first I think...

20 matches take away the ones they've won and drawn equals their losses?

Don't count on me for this LOL

a] 20 - (p+q) = losses
b] 3p + q = Amount of points

Maybe?

Hope I've helped in some way.

Same here. I'm appalling at Maths. I never showed up for any classes in the early years and it's a downward spiral from there. If you don't know the basics in Maths you can't do the later stuff. It all builds up and up.

Can't climb a ladder if the bottom half's rungs are missing .

a. 20 - (p+q)
b. 3p + q

a - p and q are wins and draws, and if they play 20 games, 20 games - p and q = the amount of games left which he will lose.

b - he gets 3 points per win, the letter p represents the number of wins, and 1 point per draw, the letter q represents the number of draws.

My brain is literally incapable of understanding Maths. I'm extremely biased towards right brain mentality and am pretty much hopeless at any abstract logistical tasks.

I don't think it's that bad, some bits are tricky but overall it's ok I spose. A2 will probably be wellll difficult.

Id say A2 is just the same hardness, once you understand differentiation and integration ALevel maths is a doddle, the only problem is not many people can understand it
