Aberdeen is a parochial backwater, like a lot of Scotland. Their dogged nationalism and hatred of the English is mostly down to insecurity and a retrospective victim mentality. The fact that we don't have the same insecurities is pretty much the reason the English don't blabber on about how proud they are to be English (except for morons like Gary Bushell). Our superiority complex makes up for it.

No matter that they act like senile 12-year-olds on the Today programme website - smoking illegal fags to look tough and cool. No matter that Amis coins truly abominable terms like 'the age of horrorism' and when criticised tells people to 'fuck off'. Surely we all chuckle at the strenuous ennui of his salon drawl. Didn't he once accidentally sneer his face off?
