Why do we listen to depressing music or films that we know will make us feel depressed? Why, when we have the feeling our partner is cheating, do we feel the need to check their inbox and discover their dirty little secret when we know it will break our heart?

It's subconscious behaviour. We can deny it all we like, but we like to suffer and we like to watch others suffer too.
