Default Will there be another 'Great'?

Like band or artist or whatever. We all know the greats really but it seems people are too quick to call people 'icons' these days. And none of the greats include, Britney, Gaga, Beyonce, Justin, Jay-Z. They are just popular artists. I'm talking about actual icons, and I don't think another is amoung us quite at this time in music.

I don't like much of his music but I'd say that Jay-Z is quite a big figure in modern music, I could see why people would call him an icon although I'm no fan.

I don't think there will ever be a band like The Beatles again.

Amy Winehouse maybe? Also bands like Daft Punk and Gorillaz?

I agree with Jay-Z....for the past decade at least he's been dueting with everyone and becoming bigger and better than most before him....

I think one thing we need to define is ICON, take the noughties it was typically dominated by rap/R'n'B/Hip Hop ETC so a lot of mainstream icons will be people from that genres, but you also got to consider the fact that indie music resurged again so you'll have a few icons like Arctic Monkeys (there's better examples I know) that were either indie, started off as indie or had an indie styling.

Icon is a word that can be thrown around a lot easily but greatness can only be achieved through longevity, if anybody's music from this generation remains relevant and good in 20 years time then there'll abviously be more of a case of them being great.

I don't think I made much sense but there you go.

LMAO! You can't call me bias and then say GaGa. It's nothing to do with sales figures.

She is the icon of 2009 but It's ridiculous to brand her one of the greats after one album. She COULD be one of the greats eventually but at the moment she's not. In ways she does remind me of Madonna though when it comes to the media intrigue and such as Madonna courted the press like Gaga does back in the day.

Give her 20 years and see how relevant she is then.

You have to wait 20 years or so..

and you will see some people being legendary.

Id agree with take that.. they were amazing and they come back just as good if not better.

Dunno about TT. And I get what you mean about Jay Z, but it's only cos R n B, Hip hop and that has become popular over there the last few years. He does not seem to have too much personality about him really, yeah he is a good artist, but he just does not have it all.

I think that Miley Cyrus will be looked back on in years to come and be seen as a bit of an icon. Never has someone ruled the tween market, successfully drifted to the teen scene and then managed to have a contemporary, radio single worldwide. She's the most successful artist of the Disney genre and she really broke the mould for the Demis, Selenas, Ashleys, ect. of the world

I think he's become more involved with the fans since the Glasto thing, I mean ive seen a lot more interviews and more commercially playable stuff.....wether that makes him a sell out to some extent im not sure....

I also think GaGa has the potential to be iconic come 20 years time.
